2026 Hemmings Great Race presented by Coker Tire - Day 4

Today was a wet one! We started our day by traveling west out of Oklahoma City just far enough out of town to get to some great back roads. Of course, we spent plenty of time on historic Route 66 during our route, some areas with the original concrete still in place. We saw historic buildings, dilapidated gas stations and a few restored ones as well. A haze filled the sky for most of the morning, and then the rain started falling as racers began rolling into Elk City, Oklahoma for our hosted lunch stop at the National Route 66 Museum. This facility has so many cool exhibits, and we had enough time to check out a few of them and sit down in the theater for a wonderful lunch.

While the wet stuff diminished in Elk City, the competition drove directly into another storm cloud with torrential rainfall, which flooded parts of the road. We captured some fun splash shots, which occurred while on the clock, so the teams likely had to do some extra math to make up for the time lost in the water. From there, things dried up as we crossed into Texas. While off the clock, the teams passed by the iconic Conoco gas station in Shamrock, Texas. Then, it was back to business, with more rallying on Route 66 as well as a cool drive through the McClellan Creek National Grassland. Finally, we made it to Amarillo, Texas for a great stop on historic Route 66. Severe thunderstorms were looming, but luckily, it didn't bear down on our festivities too badly. Teams were allowed to leave the hosted stop early due to the severe weather. Ultimately, it was the husband and wife team of Olivia and DJ Williams taking home the Stage 4 victory with an astonishing score of 8.91 seconds on the day.
