Book Your Spring Rally HotelA Few Days of Rallying Can Make a Big Difference
For teams preparing for the Great Race, the Spring Rally is a valuable chance to practice in a real event setting before June. Drivers and navigators can work on timing, communication, and consistency while also putting the car through several days of rallying.
It is also a good opportunity to uncover mechanical, equipment, or setup issues while there is still time to address them.
Practice Rallying
Get more time working through time-speed-distance rallying in a real event environment.
Work as a Team
Give drivers and navigators more time to build communication and settle into a rhythm together.
Test the Car
Put meaningful miles on the vehicle and identify problems before the Great Race begins.
You Don't Have to Be a Great Race Competitor
Open Beyond the Great Race
The Spring Rally is not limited to current Great Race competitors. Anyone interested in time-speed-distance rallying, additional practice, or spending a few days rallying with the Great Race community is welcome to participate.
Collector Vehicles Welcome
Truly vintage vehicles are encouraged, but the Spring Rally is open to collector vehicles beyond the traditional Great Race field.
If you are unsure whether your vehicle is appropriate for the event, please contact us before registering.
Chattanooga Is Home Base
The 2027 event will use a cloverleaf format. Teams will head out from Chattanooga each day and return to the same home base.
That means participants can enjoy a multi-day rally without packing up and moving to a different hotel every night.

Spring Rally FAQ
A few of the questions we hear most often from teams planning to join us in Chattanooga.
Is the $1,350 registration fee per person?
No. Registration is for the full team, not per person. Each team receives four participant badges, which are typically used for the driver, navigator, and support members.
Can I bring more than four people?
Yes. Each team registration includes four participant badges. Additional support members are welcome, but they must be registered separately through MotorsportReg and will require an additional fee.
What kind of car can I bring?
Truly vintage vehicles are encouraged, but the Spring Rally is open to collector vehicles beyond the traditional Great Race field.
If you are unsure whether your vehicle is appropriate for the event, please contact us before registering.
Do I have to be entered in the Great Race to participate?
No. The Spring Rally is open beyond current Great Race competitors. Anyone interested in time-speed-distance rallying can participate.
What does the daily competition involve?
The Spring Rally uses time-speed-distance rallying, the same style of rallying teams encounter in the Great Race.
Drivers and navigators follow detailed route instructions while working to maintain prescribed speeds and arrive at checkpoints at the correct time. The goal is accuracy and consistency, not racing for the fastest speed.
Are there different challenges or competitions each day?
Each rally day brings a new route and another full day of time-speed-distance competition. Roads, instructions, checkpoints, and rally situations change throughout the event, giving teams several days to practice timing, navigation, communication, and consistency.
Do we change hotels each night?
No. The 2027 Spring Rally uses a cloverleaf format. Chattanooga is home base, and teams will leave from and return to Chattanooga each day.
Where should we stay?
The Spring Rally hotel is the Chalet Hotel at the Chattanooga Choo Choo. A room block is available, including a limited number of newly refurbished train-car accommodations.
Because the train-car rooms are limited, we recommend booking early.
Do I need to book my hotel for before April 29 or check out after May 2?
Some people choose to arrive early or stay late to enjoy sightseeing or allow more time for travel. Plan to be at registration during the day on April 29. All rally events will be finished by the afternoon on May 2, so choose your hotel dates based on those times and your travel plans.
I'm a rookie. How does the free registration work?
Thanks to the generous support of Stahls Motors and Music Experience, rookie registration is free. Rookie teams pay a $250 deposit when registering, which will be refunded upon arrival at the rally.
What if I need special accommodations?
Please contact the Great Race team before the event so we can discuss your needs and determine what arrangements may be available.
