Support Crew Guide
Support crews are an important part of the Great Race experience — but their route and responsibilities are different from those of the competing vehicle.
Do not follow the competing vehicle.
Support crews receive their own daily driving directions and must follow the official Support Crew Instructions rather than trying to find or follow the participant competition route.
Your Route Is Different
Use the directions provided for your support crew each day. Do not attempt to recreate or locate the participant route.
Support vehicles should not travel near their team's competing vehicle during a Stage.
During competition, support crew members, family, and friends may not provide unauthorized service, assistance, or communications to the competing vehicle.
Whenever possible, the support route includes interesting places and sightseeing opportunities so crews can enjoy the trip while traveling to the next stop.
You Accidentally End Up With the Competition Field
If the day's Support Crew Instructions prohibit you from being in the field and you accidentally encounter the competing vehicles, do not continue traveling with them.
Pull safely off the road and park.
Wait for the official sweep vehicle to pass.
Remain behind sweep or take a different route.
Parking & Display Areas
Competing vehicles and support vehicles may have separate parking areas. Follow the instructions provided by Great Race staff and the host community. Support vehicles should not enter restricted display areas unless permitted.
Give competing cars plenty of room to enter, park, and leave the display area. If staff directs support vehicles to a separate lot, please use that area even if your team's competing car is parked elsewhere.
Invite Them to Join You
We encourage participants to invite family and friends to evening stops. It is a great way for loved ones to experience the Great Race and see the cars and community firsthand.
Anyone who plans to participate in Great Race-provided meals needs to be registered as part of the support crew. If loved ones are joining you for just one evening or one meal, consider enjoying a local restaurant together and supporting the host community.
Between official locations, support crews are welcome to enjoy local attractions and sightseeing as time allows — just stay clear of the competition field and follow the daily Support Crew Instructions.
Support-vehicle violations can result in penalties to the competing team. Make sure everyone traveling with your group understands the support rules before the event begins.
