Olivia's Final 2015 Recap

As the banquet ended I couldn't help myself from running onto the stage and giving the biggest hug I could manage to our newest recipient of the Spirit of The Event award (Brian Goudge, aka Motormouth). Motormouth has been a huge part of The Great Race for as long as I can remember. He has sacrificed endlessly for the race, even missing his grandchildren's school banquets, and I could not think of a better person to receive one of my favorite awards. When I 1st started writing these I began to find myself reading through his each night for inspiration, and asking him questions the next day. He is without a doubt the best mentor I could have ever asked for, and I am beyond blessed that he continues to do this event each year. I am so happy for you Motormouth, and thank you for everything that you have done to make this event what it is today. I believe Motormouth left California on Monday, as did a lot of the Great Race family, each individual heading back to their home town. For me, this is truly the hardest part of the race; each year I dread having to say goodbye to all of my friends, new and old. After a great breakfast at Coker Tire followed by a very educational tour I was forced to say goodbye to the few racers that were still in town. This year's Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty definitely exceeded it's standards, and I have to admit I am already excited for next year. I have loved writing for all of y'all, and I can't wait to see all of y'all next year! Thanks to all for the continuous support! - Olivia Gentry
