Great Race Veteran Passes Away
We got a note from Bobby Hadskey by way of Gloria Harpenau letting us know about the passing of longtime Great Racer Bill Monaghan. Bill was a veteran of more than 10 Great Races and he had one of the more unique cars ever in the event a 1936 Graham Supercharged 6 cylinder. Known as the Desert Fox, the team of Monaghan driving and Tom Kucera navigating won the Expert Division in the 1999 race from Marietta, Ga., to Anaheim, Calif. Tom has been navigating for Leonard Harpenau for the last several years in a 1928 Model A delivery. Although we hadnt seen Bill for quite a while, he was still part of the Great Race family and will be greatly missed.
