2026 Hemmings Great Race presented by Coker Tire - Day 6

Another Great Race day is complete, and it was another long day of driving to make our way across Route 66. We saw some great sights today, and it started before the teams even went on the clock. The landscape was beautiful and we enjoyed some cool temperatures early on. The morning route led us to Gallup, New Mexico, where we took over the town. Our hosted lunch stop was held on Historic Route 66 right in the middle of town. The crowd was great, and the food was even better, but like always, we had to hit the road after a quick cool down.

A nasty thunderstorm rolled in after noon and affected some of the racers who were already on the clock, as well as the folks who were later in the pack as they were still in Gallup. The afternoon route featured lots of interstate miles, but we enjoyed the incredible scenery at the Petrified Forest National Park. The teams rallied through the entire park, which offered its own challenges with tourists and onlookers. Finally, it was a long stretch on Interstate 40 into Flagstaff, Arizona, where we were met by thousands of people at our hosted evening stop. Wind advisories prevented us from having our normal finish line arch, but we had a great time either way. The town filled with cars and people as the sun went down. At the end of the day, it was a brand new winner for Stage 6! Tom Hicks and Jesse Jameson turned in a 3 second day in their 1963 Ford Galaxie and actually tied with Dave and Liz Wallace in their 1970 Dodge Challenger. Because of the older year of the Galaxie, it was awarded the Stage 6 victory.
