The X-Cup Division, Powered by Coker Tire is rapidly growing, and major new initiatives are underway. First you’ll notice a great new look to the X-Cup Website, streamlined with easy navigation. New Teams have entered the competition for 2016, which is expected to double the number of competitors from just 2 years ago. Ohio Technical College based in Cleveland, and Dysart High School from Dysart, AZ will join the X-Cup Division. OTC will be running a 1968 Firebird Convertible and Dysart is fielding a 1967 Mercury Cougar.

AACA has announced it will continue the $1000 AACA Team Grant program, which will total $3000 for 2016. New for 2016 will be a second AACA initiative, the AACA X-Cup Scholarships will be up for grabs. Qualified X-Cup Team members will be eligible for substantial education tuition awards, that will directly benefit their advanced automotive studies.

Reliable Carriers has also announced their support of X-Cup with a special program to transport one eligible Team’s vehicle to the starting line, as well as back to their home campus at the conclusion of the 2016 Great Race. This will be an important new benefit for one lucky X-Cup Team.

A new X-Cup Video has been launched which explains the program. It will help a wide audience including parents, school staff, sponsors as well as potential student competitors better understand just what the X-Cup Division is all about. Three additional videos feature the 2015 X-Cup Teams Alfred State College, McPherson College, and Ponca City School. Also, check out the new 2016 AACA X-Cup Brochure.

Each of these programs are designed specifically to support young people, and grow their interest in vintage vehicles with the ultimate “bucket list” competitive experience. These students will be the next Great Race generation, when it becomes our turn to watch. Stay tuned for further details on all of these exciting new X-Cup developments in the coming weeks!

  • It is so cool to see younger people becoming more involved in such an amazing sport! Can’t wait to meet everyone!

  • A lot of people have worked very hard on this to make the X-Cup program even better, including Jeff Mahl and Earl Mowry from AACA. And a special thanks goes out to Bob Sellers and all of the folks at Reliable Carriers for what they are doing for X-Cup.
