All Great Racers, support crew members and staff have a wonderful opportunity to be a part of a special 50th anniversary premiere of The Great Race movie starring Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon on Wednesday, June 15, at 7 p.m. at the historic Rafael Theater in downtown San Rafael. Each Great Racer who wants to attend can do so free of charge if they take a few minutes right now to click the link at the bottom of this email to let us know you will be coming and how many will be in your party. You will be provided with a complementary souvenir ticket that will get you into the movie and that you can keep in your 2016 Great Race scrapbook.

The stars of the movie – the Leslie Special and the Hannibal 8 – will be on display outside of the theater along with actors portraying The Great Leslie and Professor Fate. The cars are generously being provided by the Stahl Automotive Museum in Chesterfield, Michigan. You can be dropped off in front of the theater onto the red carpet and ushered to your VIP seats. Any tickets not provided to Great Racers will be sold to local residents as part of a fundraiser for the San Rafael Library so we need an exact head count this week.

The Rafael Theater has been restored to its former glory and has a state of the art sound system that is so good that George Lucus previews his movies there. Yes, the George Lucus of American Graffiti, Indiana Jones and Star Wars fame. He is from the area and has a studio nearby. Please click the link below to make your reservations by this Friday, May 20. Feel free to call or email race director Jeff Stumb with any questions.

One comment about “Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Great Race Movie”

  • The Hollywood version of the epic 1908 New York to Paris Race is a true classic. Even more amazing is that the Race actually happened, and we will get to see the Thomas Flyer driven by George Schuster winner of the very first Great Race when we arrive in Reno, NV!
