I will never forget one morning our Rookie year We were on a transit (not being timed) on a freeway in Colorado. It was about 9:30am and I had the 41 Packard pegged on 50 mph. After a bit Pat leaned over and said, Are you asleep? I looked at the speedometer and said, No, I am dead-on 50. To which he replied, You may be going 50, but you are driving on all 4 lanes. Oops I was asleep with my eyes fixed on the speedometer! At the next gas station I bought whatever they had to keep a person awake. The Great Race is a time/speed/ENDURANCE rally.
