Great Race 2012 to air on Speed channel

The 2012 Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty will air on Speed on Monday, March 11, and it will be shown multiple times over the following months as an episode of Hot Rod TV. It will be in prime time, but the exact time will not be announced until late January.

“We are thrilled to have our event on the ultimate television show and network for people who love cars – Hot Rod TV and Speed,” race director Jeff Stumb said. “It will be great to re-live the trip from Traverse City, Mich., around the Great Lakes and back to Michigan,” he said. “Those that weren’t with us will see what they missed, and it will help promote the 2013 Great Race down the Mississippi River this summer.”

Great Race staff, led by Jason White and Wallace Braud, filmed the event once again in 2012, but Hot Rod TV took the footage and a crack team in California has been busy for weeks shaping it into the show scheduled for March.

In 2011, Hot Rod TV featured Great Race icons Corky Coker and Greg Cunningham on their quest to find old cars in barns. That led to the new Travel Channel series called “Barn Finds,” which is set to air this spring. In 2012, Hot Rod TV again featured Cunningham, this time in his role as manager of Honest Charley Garage.

Speed is offered all over the country and is offered by most cable and satellite providers. Each episode of Hot Rod TV plays multiple times on different days and at different times allowing millions of people to view each show.

The 2011 Great Race aired on Fox Sports in two 30-minute parts, but this year’s event will air in its entirety in one part.
