The Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty is completely full and a waiting list has been established, director Jeff Stumb has announced. It marks the earliest the Great Race has sold out in its 32-year history. “We have had a remarkable early turnout of veterans, especially from those who were rookies in the 2014 Great Race,” Stumb said. “And we have 37 rookie teams for 2015 already signed up.”

There still may be a good chance to enter the 2015 Great Race from the waiting list. “Last year, we had five teams that entered but couldn’t make the race due to weddings or health concerns, so I urge anyone who is not already entered to get on the waiting list.”

To add your name to the waiting list, please submit your name, email and phone number on the form under the registration tab at the top of the Great Race homepage at www.greatrace.com. Then mail a check for $500 to the Great Race Headquarters: 1317 Chestnut Street, Chattanooga, TN 37402

Potential entrants will be notified of available spots in the order waiting list checks are received. If your team is not added to the 2015 Great Race roster, you will have the opportunity to either apply your $500 check to the 2016 entry fee, or opt for a full refund.

  • That’s a real shame, Was considering entering for our first year in the “Big” race. Have run several Regional “Great Race ” and “VCRA” events. Good luck to all from Texas.

  • Anxious to see the entry list with all the different cars and characters we will be competing with. Always a great variety.

  • My wife and I are new empty nesters, and this would be our first entry in the Great Race. We’re seriously disappointed the roster is already full and are hoping a spot opens up. If not, we’ll have to wait for the next opportunity. Happy motoring!

  • I have a 1966 Fargo Travel Van. It is in original condition and I would like to be placed on the list for this years race.

  • The 2015 “Great Race” route is enough to make a grown man cry. Why? My parents, grandparents, two older brothers traveled Ole Route 66 in 1947 inside a 1946 Buick. We left Ava, Missouri and picked up Route 66 in Springfield, Missouri heading to Sanger,
California. Going across New Mexico my dad and a young Army boy did a little racing (with great protecting from my mother). The race ended when the young man’s 1942 Mercuary overheated long about Gallup, New Mexico. Dad gave him a honk and us boys gave him a wave of approval for a “great race” and he smiled and waved back, as we continued on our way. There are so many wonderful memories connected with that trip down Route 66.

I only wish I had the means and a 1946 Buick Super fastback to make the journey one moe time. However; all is not lost. I will be here in Lake Havusu City, Arizona when a overnight stop is scheduled. I know I will enjoy visiting with some of the drivers and seeing some of the vehicles that I one time owned, drove or dreamed about owning.

I certainly wish everyone a save and delightful journey building up memories that I experienced back in 1947.
