Great Race 2013

The Concours d’Elegance of America has announced it will pay tribute to the cars of the Great Race at its 35th annual event this summer in Michigan. The Great Race Class will be one of 22 special classes, and it will take place Sunday, July 28, at The Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth, Michigan.

Other noted classes at this year’s Concours are 50th Anniversary of the 1963 Corvette; Detroit Iron: Cadillac, Chrysler, Lincoln and Packard; Indianapolis Iron: Duesenberg, Marmon and Stutz; London to Brighton; and Vintage NASCAR.

Car Selection Committee Member Vahan Nazarian, who was at the start and finish of the 2012 Great Race and visited with participants, said “This is a great opportunity to showcase race cars that have raced in past Great Races at our Concours.” The committee has been contacting special Great Race car owners and sending out invitations.

The Great Race itself is not part of the selection process, but director Jeff Stumb said “Any time someone promotes the Great Race and new people see our cars and meet our racers we are excited.”

Tickets and more information can be obtained at www.concoursusa.org or by calling 248-643-8645.

  • How many of you remember this early ’40s staff car that belongs to Jack Roush (you can see him looking out the back window where he navigated from during the 2006 Great Race)? Rumor has it this might be one of the cars invited to the Concours.

  • I believe that Mr. Roush donated the car after Great Race 2006 following our visit to Tonopah, NV. I think that he loved those days when he got to travel with the late Benny Parsons… and I loved introducing them to the crowds along the way!I believe that Jack learned to fly in the Tonopah area. Great car…would love to see it again!
