A century in the making!
Great Race Sports is commemorating the centennial one of the most remarkable motorsports events of the last century, a race around the world from New York to Paris. “The Greatest Auto Race” of 1908 was created to showcase the newly invented automobile on a worldwide stage.
The Great Race 2008: New York to Paris is a renewal of the 1908 race, this time with automobiles powered by renewable fuels along with a select group of classic cars celebrating the spirit of adventure of a century ago.
Who will take up the challenge?

100 years ago, 17 men from 4 nations, France, Germany, Italy and the U.S., participated in a global endurance test of man and machine, traveling around the world without the benefit of today’s modern highway transportation and refueling system.
Participants in the “Greatest Auto Race” overcame incredible obstacles to successfully complete one of the greatest motorsports events of the last century. The Great Race 2008 reflects that very same spirit of adventure.
- Participants must carry everything on board they may need to complete the journey
- Every mile must be driven
- No support vehicles are allowed through portions of the route
- Teams are allowed to pre-position supplies along the way
The Great Race is a driving adventure. Participants will be required to follow a specific route at speeds prescribed by the organizing committee. Teams will be timed using state-of-the-art GPS communications transmitters, installed in each car. The GPS transmitters will also serve as tracking devices for safety purposes.
