New York to Paris Great Race dates announced
New York to Paris event is rescheduled for April 2009 as part of an exciting menu of automotive events
Great Race Sports has announced that the milestone event from New York to Paris has been rescheduled for April 25, 2009 after being postponed from its original starting date this May. The commemorative re-run of the 1908 New York-to-Paris “Great Race” is widely considered to be one of the most remarkable automotive adventures of the 20th century, an automobile race from New York to Paris before the advent of today’s modern highways and gas stations.
The Great Race 2008: New York to Paris and related events was originally scheduled to begin on May 30, 2008 in New York City but was postponed after the Chinese government revoked travel permits for foreigners traveling throughout the country following demonstrations in Tibet and surrounding the Olympic Torch Run.
The 2009 dates are part of a complete Schedule of Events released by Great Race earlier today. In addition to the new dates for the New York to Paris Great Race, some new events have been added to schedule, including a driving tour through in California this fall and an historic recreation of an off-road race that took place a century ago.

The Coker Tire Challenge: Teams can celebrate the waning days of summer in this Great Race style rally throughout the foothills of Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama in a three-day event, hosted by Corky Coker, president of Coker Tire, the world’s leading dealer in classic car tires and wheels.
California Adventure Driving Tour (New!): A six-day organized driving tour from Las Vegas, Nevada to San Jose, California. Drive your favorite classic car or an exotic rental at your own speeds and enjoy miles of smiles in this first annual driving adventure through some of the most scenic and varied landscapes in the lower 48 states including Death Valley, the Sequoia National Forest and one of the most scenic highways in the world, Highway 1 along the Pacific Ocean.
Cactus Derby - Vegas to Barstow (New!): is a modern-day renewal of an historic automobile race that took place between Los Angeles and Phoenix between 1908 and 1914 and featured some of the most famous racecar drivers of the era. This modern-day renewal is open to modern, street-legal automobiles in a driving adventure that will travel primarily on dirt roads and some highways between Vegas and Barstow.
Great Race Texas: The 21st annual Great Race Texas will return to Granbury following a successful event in 2008. Great Race Texas is a three-day traditional Great Race style rally competition combined with some great Texas hospitality thrown in.
Great Race 2009: New York to Paris: The commemorative re-run of the 1908 New York-to-Paris “Great Race,” will be celebrated in 2009 after being rescheduled from 2008. The details regarding the stage events will be announced at a later date.
