HOLLYWOOD, CA., June 16th, 2014 — O’Connell Racing (OConnellRacing.com), a professional motorsports company based in Southern California announced today that the team with the father-son driver combination of Gus O’Connell and Kevin O’Connell will compete in the 2014 Hemmings Motor News Great Race that will take place over a week long period starting in downtown Ogunquit, Maine and ending in The Villages, Florida.

The Great Race, established in 1983 requires entrants to only race classic, vintage or antique vehicles. The race is considered to be an automotive competition based on precision driving and navigational skills with events that are timed, with controlled speeds and endurance criteria. The 2014 race will include stops in states such as New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Delaware, Virginia, North and South Carolina and Georgia with the finish in Florida.

Kevin O’Connell commented, “This is a new type of racing for us and our #59 entry will campaign an all original 1959 Chevrolet Apache Fleetside pick-up truck. My father, family friends Bill Kohlmeyer and Chris Bensabat are going to start the event in Maine, with family members Fred and Denny Cassin providing race support and logistics. I intend to meet up with the team somewhere along the line and drive for a stint or two after racing in the Gardner Denver 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Road America with Rick Ware Racing.”

Shania Twain’s charity Shania Kids Can has been selected as the primary effort for the entire month of June with O’Connell Racing and Rick Ware Racing dedicating entire events in NASCAR, the IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo Racing Series and the Great Race to the charity.

About Shania Kids Can:
Shania Kids Can is a program designed for kids at primary school level who are having personal problems at home. As a result these children often have difficulties functioning at their full potential in the school environment either socially, behaviorally, academically or all three. Children with personal life challenges might come to school with low self-esteem, depressed, tired or hungry – not ideal for taking in the joy of learning, the security of community and the pleasure of friendship. The Shania Kids Can Foundation educates, inspires and empowers children in their communities to achieve their full potential by increasing their chances of equality and opportunities for success. By helping less fortunate children reach their personal best in their daily lives at primary school age; this may likely prevent the less positive alternative that too many children of lost potential face later in life …of becoming statistics that burden society rather than contributing to it.
