Elko, Nevada will host an overnight stop on the 2016 Great Race on Monday, June 20, on Moren Way just off College Avenue in front of the Elko Convention Center. Elko, with its location being halfway between Reno and Salt Lake City, has been an overnight stop on the Great Race four previous times, with the most recent being 2004.

Racers will start the day in Reno and travel along the Lincoln Highway for much of the day, including a lunch stop in Austin. It is called Highway 50 now, but it is also known as the “Loneliest Road in America.” Although Nevada is called the “Silver State,” Elko is actually best known for gold mines. The largest is called the Goldstrike Mine.
