It’s an Addiction…

Our good friend Jim Menneto and the good folks at Hemmings Motor News do a terrific job of putting together the greatest automotive magazine in the word each month. Not only is Hemmings the title sponsor of the Great Race and a huge supporter of old car rallies, it also deliver tens of thousands of old cars and parts for sale as well as the freshest insight to the automobile market, wonderful features on antique automobiles and beautiful photography all in one package.

It is an amazing magazine, but with the technology of today you do not have to wait for the new issue to hit your mailbox to get your Hemmings “fix.”
When the magazine arrives in my mailbox, my wife says “I guess I won’t see you for a couple of hours” because I take it and start reading right away. The first thing I do is to go through the classifieds and mark everything of interest. Then I start making calls. Over the years, I have bought at least a half a dozen cars and numerous parts out of Hemmings.

A couple of years ago, Hemmings started something called the Hemmings Daily – an email each morning with interesting news and facts about the hobby. It’s how I start my day each morning. The Hemmings Daily also has five or six selections of cars for sale from its data base, and I always enjoy looking at those as well, although they have rarely been something I was interested in purchasing.
Well, Friday changed all of that. Right there on the right side column of the Hemmings Daily was a 1937 Chevrolet Dirt Track racer for sale. I need another car like a need a hole in my head, but before the day was out it was mine. It used to be my wife only had to worry about me buying cars out of Hemmings once a month, but now she has to worry every day.

I don’t know what I am going to do with the car, but maybe you will see me in it at a rally in the near future.
