The two-time defending Grand Champions of the Great Race, Irene and Barry Jason, will be trying for their third victory in a row with a new car this summer. The Jasons, who are from Keller, Texas, will race this year in a 1966 Mustang. It’s a far cry from the 1935 Ford Coupe they were victorious in at the finish line in Dearborn, Mich., in 2012 and in Mobile, Alabama, in 2013.

No one has ever won three in a row, although three men can claim five total championships (Dick Burdick, Wayne Bell and Wayne Stanfield). And no one has ever won the Great Race in a post-World War II automobile.

It will be interesting to see who finishes on top as the cars cross the finish line in The Villages, Florida, on June 29.
